Since joining the firm in 2008, Marty Kirshner has played a key role in Gray, Gray & Gray’s Energy Practice Group, where he goes beyond the numbers to serve as a strategic advisor to our energy clients and is frequently called on to share his knowledge as a guest speaker and seminar leader at numerous industry events. In 2017, Marty was named champion of Gray, Gray & Gray’s Energy Practice Group, where he oversees all aspects of the firm’s relationship with fuel oil and propane clients, including audit, accounting, compliance and planning services.
As a Director in our Client Services Department, Marty helps to lead our team in providing exceptional accounting, audit and advisory services for clients in various industries. He has successfully directed many of Gray, Gray & Gray’s larger corporate audits, including numerous energy businesses, and oversees all aspects of the audit – from planning, to fieldwork, to reporting. Throughout each audit, Marty communicates directly with the client’s financial personnel and delivers regular in-progress reporting in a timely manner. He is also a member of our Employee Benefit Plan Audits Practice Group.
Through his depth of experience and attention to complex details, Marty is able to serve as a trusted and strategic advisor to clients – from strengthening internal controls and ensuring a thorough analysis of financial statements, to utilizing client data and industry benchmarks to assist clients with identifying opportunities for increased profitability and long-term goal attainment. Additionally, he provides comprehensive tax planning and compliance services for corporate and individual clients.
Marty is a frequent speaker at energy industry conferences and trade shows, including the Eastern Energy Expo, PGANE, NEFI Energy Expo and HEAT conferences, the Southern New England Energy Conference, and at association meetings for the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association and Oil Heat Institute of Rhode Island. He is a regular contributor to energy industry publications, including Oil & Energy.
Marty is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and earned his Master’s degree in Accounting at Northeastern University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
